About Resilient
Resilient Therapies
Resilient Therapies was founded in 2020 by occupational therapist and nurse, Suzanne Remy. It's no secret that the year 2020 came with many twists and turns, presenting new challenges and needs for all. Suzanne worked in a pediatric outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation settings throughout the pandemic. Both the outpatient and inpatient settings had to adjust to ever changing variables throughout this time. Suzanne saw an increasing need to address goals with adults that were typically only talked about with younger patients. These challenges fueled Suzanne's nature to think outside of the box and as a result, Resilient Therapies was born. Being healthy and happy is more than just looking good for your age and a good doctor's report. It is important to nourish all body systems throughout the lifespan to help manage stress, process sensory information, balance hormones, and stay connected to ourselves and others.
Resilient Health and Wellness Studios LLC
Resilient Health and Wellness Studios LLC was born as a collective space to bring Resilient Therapies, Yoga, Pilates, breath work and other mind-body techniques together to deliver comprehensive and holistic healing.
What is occupational therapy?
When people hear about occupational therapy, they often think “oh you help people find jobs.” or “so you do physical therapy?”.
Occupational therapy is an allied health profession like physical therapy or speech language therapy that works on helping people of all ages and stages become more independent and/or maximize their potential with the therapeutic use of everyday activities. This can look like helping them heal from a physical injury, recover from an illness, manage disabilities, and/or refine skills that are keeping you from being your best.
What most people don’t know about occupational therapy is that it not only focuses on your body but your MIND too = mind/body connection.
What does it mean to be resilient?
Being resilient means being able to withstand or recover quickly from difficult conditions. We don't always have control over every situation in our life, but we can improve our capacity to be resilient.
How does stress impact the body?
Stress is something that happens to all of us. Often times we don't even know we are living in a state of stress because we're doing things that are "normal" or "just part of our day". This often means we're living in a state of fight/flight/freeze which translates to living in a state of increased heart rate/blood pressure, difficulty sleeping, stiff muscles and joints, difficulty with digestion, getting sick often, decreased ability to breathe properly, and a constant state of anxiety, depression, or overwhelm. Working with Resilient Therapies can help you identify stressors, understand how stress is impacting your body, and adjust your perspective on how to deal with stress. It's easier than you might think.
What is sensory processing?
Sensory processing is the process in which we utilizes all of our senses (see, smell, hear, etc.) to take in information from our own bodies and the environment around us. The more efficient this processing system is, the more efficient the body can function. It is commonly known that we have 5 senses, but we actually have many more! At Resilient we typically focus on 9 senses: sight, sounds, smell, touch, taste, balance, movement, internal signals, and temperature.
